Supreme Court Order on Ranveer Allahbadia’s case
The Supreme Court on 18 February 2025 sternly reprimanded YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia for his objectionable remarks on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
The bench of Justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh didn’t mince words, as they lashed out at him for Allahbadia’s obscene remarks made on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
The bench characterised his comments as “disgusting”, “filthy”, and “insulting.”
“There is something very dirty in his mind that has been vomited by way of this program,” the bench added.
The Division Bench observed that the remarks he made on the show were offensive to societal norms and had the potential to shame “every parent, daughters, sisters and younger brothers”.
The Bench was also critical of Allahbadia’s words and conduct on the show.
The Court remarked – “The words you have chosen, parents will feel ashamed. Daughters and sisters will feel ashamed. The entire society will be ashamed. These are the levels of depravity you and your henchmen have gone to. Rule of law and system has to be followed. He should be ashamed as to what he has done to his parents. We are not in ivory towers and we know how he copied and Australian show content. There are warnings in such shows”.
The Court ordered Allahbadia and his associates to immediately halt all show broadcasts until further notice.
A bench of Justices stated, “The petitioner or his associates shall not air any show on YouTube or any other audio/video platform until further orders.”
Several cases were filed against Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, for the comment on parents and sex on the show, which is hosted by comic Samay Raina.
The order states – The interim protection against arrest is granted further subject to the condition that the petitioner will extend full cooperation to the ongoing investigation.
“He will not be accompanied by any counsel inside the police station during the course of the investigation,” the order stated.
Allahbadia was directed by the bench to deposit his passport with the investigating officer of Police Station Nodal Cyber Police, Thane.
“He shall not leave the country without prior permission of this court,” the bench said.
The bench said Allahbadia was at liberty to approach the local police of Maharashtra and Assam for the protection of his life and liberty in the event of any threat, to enable him to join the investigation.
The Court imposed several conditions:
No new FIRs shall be registered against Allahbadia based on the same remarks
He must cooperate with the police whenever summoned
He shall not be accompanied by a lawyer into the police station during questioning
He must surrender his passport at Thane police station and cannot leave the country without prior permission of the Investigating Officer, and this Court.
He must refrain from participating in any shows in the interim.
