The Department of Pharmacy has well-established state-of-art laboratories with modern apparatuses that provide practical understanding to the students in the pharmaceutical domain. The well-designed and well-equipped pharmacy laboratories provide the necessary information and work-on-hands skills to the students regarding the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), development of different pharmaceutical dosage forms, pre-clinical and clinical assessment of APIs, isolation of therapeutically active herbal products, and product characterization using various analytical studies.
The students are also made competent to gain knowledge and understand methods for standardization of pharmaceutical formulations, recognizing drug-drug or drug-excipient interactions, adverse drug reactions, product particularization, and marketing of finished pharmaceuticals.
Jharkhand Rai University provides highly advanced and well-equipped laboratories in the Department of Pharmacy for focusing on experimentations associated with major subjects such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Biotechnology and others, thus paving a platform for the students to gain eminent knowledge through learning-by-doing.
These laboratories offer basic and experimental knowledge regarding the design, development and formulation of various pharmaceutical dosage forms including, tablets, capsules, powders, parenteral, syrups, elixirs, ointments, creams.
Apart from this, as per industrial guidelines diverse features related to packaging such as dispensing, filling, sealing and labeling, are also demonstrated to the students. Moreover, the pharmaceutics laboratories are well-equipped with different equipment or instruments for student understanding. Some of the major instrument includes Disintegrator apparatus, Dissolutions apparatus, Ultrasonicator, centrifuge, Ball mill, Blender, Friability tester, Mechanical stirrer, Magnetic stirrer with hot plate, pH meter and others.
These labs are meant for the synthesis, testing and recognition of different drugs moieties processed through diverse reaction and synthesis approaches. The students are exposed to the processes applicable for the isolation and purification of different APIs or medicinal/chemical compounds.
Apart from this, the students will be able to examine the organic and inorganic composites as per the Pharmacopoeia Standards. The safety concerns are highly recommended and applied to the students during experimentation. The labs are supplied with all necessary chemicals/reagents and are also well-equipped with the essential instruments and equipment such as Arsenic test apparatus, Colorimeter, Distillation unit, Deionization unit, Flame photometer, Muffle furnace, Polarimeter and others.
The department is facilitated with Pharmacology and Human Anatomy & Physiology (HAP) laboratories that provide immense experience to the students to understand the basic knowledge of HAP, body metabolism, drug dosing, drug’s mechanism of action, and also to conduct experimentations using animal models.
These labs comprise of different instruments/models such as applicable for pharmacological screening such as Rotarod, Analgesiometer, Anatomical specimen, Electro Convulsiometer, Franz diffusion cell, Hemoglobinometer, Hemocytometer, Microscope and others. Moreover, the lab is also supported with 3D anatomical models, Human skeleton, Histopathological slides for a better understanding of Anatomy and Physiology.
These Pharmacognosy laboratories are designed for providing information and work-on-hands experience to the students regarding isolation, separation, decontamination, identification and assessment of various phytoconstituents present in the herbal or medicinal plants.
In the lab, various organoleptic evaluations of crude and natural drugs are performed for a better understanding of the students. However. The Biotechnology Labs are designed to assist the students to learn basic and experimental techniques of cell biology, tissue culture, sterilization, antimicrobial assay, pathogen screening and sensitivity assay, and others. The lab is well-equipped with Incubators, Plant specimens, Autoclaves, Sterility tester, etc.
The purpose of the pharmaceutical analysis lab is to make the student understand the basics of product analysis using various instruments. Also, the students will be able to understand the process of identifying and qualifying various APIs or chemical compounds with the help of different analytical techniques.
These experimental findings will be apt for doing the analysis, quality estimation and quality control of raw drugs or finished pharmaceutical products.
These labs are mainly designed to provide essential knowledge and experimental exposure to students for manufacturing, packaging and evaluation of various pharmaceutical dosage forms at a pilot scale. These labs are well-equipped with different instruments and machinery applicable in the manufacturing of various types of solid,
liquid and semi-solid dosage forms, including tablets, capsules, powders, parenteral, syrups, elixirs, ointments, creams. These labs consist of different equipment or instruments such as Tablet punching machine (hand-operated), Tablet coating & polishing machine, Tablet disintegrator test apparatus, Ampoule washing machine, Ampoule filling & sealing machine, Bottle washing machine, Bottle sealing machine, Capsule filling machine, Double cone blender, coating pan, Dissolution test apparatus, Disintegration test apparatus, Sieve shaker, Mechanical Stirrer, Tray dryer, Hand grinding mill, Ointment filling machine and others.
