The Department of Agriculture, Organized an educational visit to the Central Tasar Research and Training Institute (CTRTI) in Ranchi for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students in their 4th and 6th semesters, as well as M.Sc. (Ag.) Agronomy students in their 2nd semester. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. As a leading institution under the Central Silk Board, CTRTI is instrumental in advancing tasar sericulture, which is essential to the rural and tribal economies of India.
During the visit, students gained insights into the entire process of tasar silk production, including silkworm rearing, host plant cultivation, silk reeling, and weaving. Engaging in hands-on demonstrations and discussions with scientists allowed them to appreciate the scientific advancements that support sustainable livelihoods in tribal regions. It was particularly motivating to observe how research in biotechnology, breeding, and disease management is revolutionizing traditional methods into lucrative ventures.
In addition to academic enrichment, the visit fostered an appreciation for indigenous knowledge, the significance of rural entrepreneurship, and the necessity of ecological conservation. It inspired students to consider innovative ways in which science and technology can enhance community empowerment and safeguard natural heritage.
