PUBG MOBILE – A CHINESE APP OR NOT?

PUBG MOBILE A CHINESE APP – YES

Yes, the mobile version of the game is developed by the Chinese company Tencent.

Hence, that makes PUBG Mobile a Chinese application.

THEN WHY THE CONFUSION?

The confusion arises because the original game does not have a Chinese origin. Because PUBG, the online multiplayer battle royale game for PC was developed and published originally by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole.

WHY IS PUBG  MOBILE A CHINESE APP?

In August 2017, Chinese IT giant Tencent purchased equity in the company. Tencent’s Lightspeed & Quantum Studios Group then developed and launched PUBG Mobile, which was known as PUBG Mobile – – Cijizhanchang in the Chinese mainland. Tencent has a 10 percent stake in Bluehole.

In the game, up to 100 players parachute onto an island and fight each other with scavenged weapons and equipment until only one team or individual remains.

According to a report by US technology website VentureBeat, PUBG Mobile has earned $ 158 million (1.07 billion yuan) in revenue so far.

PUBG COUNTRY OF ORIGIN

The game was originally developed for PC by PUBG Corporation, which is a subsidiary of a Korean game developer, Bluehole. To enter the gaming market in China, the Korean developer soon partnered with China’s biggest gaming company named Tencent.

In China, the game became an instant hit. However, it did not get the approval of the Chinese government to monetize it.

PUBG MOBILE BANNED IN CHINA?

Even though it is released by Tencent, yes the game is banned in China.

Why? Because the government thought that it is a violent game and could negatively impact youngsters.

As per reports, the government of China also mentioned that people would not be able to focus on their careers because of the game.

The fear of them getting addicted to it is also one of the reasons why it was banned.

Hence, Tencent introduced a clone app version of the game known as Game for Peace.

RANCHI TO INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS – THE STORY OF EKTA KUMARI, JRU STUDENT

When Ekta Kumari completed her Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA)  from Ranchi, she was still deciding what to do next. Of course, pursuing Masters of Computer Applications (MCA) was one of her dreams. But her family’s financial background did not support her. Her father is a small business owner in Ranchi. Surrounded with challenges, Ekta was at crossroads.

Until one day when she was referred by a friend to explore MCA course at Jharkhand Rai University (JRU). Her dream to become an MCA was fulfilled at JRU campus.

Ekta says, ‘The admission team here at JRU helped me a lot. They lowered the course fee through scholarship program. Thanks to them, I got an admission in MCA. What makes JRU different is its attention to individual student and their talent.’ At JRU, Ekta pursued her future with vigour.

Along with her MCA journey, Ekta had a second dream – to be a painter. She is gifted with a special talent and is an artist. The creative side within her wanted to pursue painting along with higher studies. As a child Ekta and her brother were enrolled in painting classes. With time, it became a passion for her. Encouraged, she started participating in various competitions and got positive response too.

Ekta found the cultural environment of the JRU campus and faculties very supportive. She says, ‘In this University, students are not only cheered for academic achievements, but also for their extracurricular activities.’

EKTA KUMARI, MCA STUDENT OF JRU

Motivated by her faculties from JRU and her art teacher Praveen Karmakar, Ekta participated in an International Painting Competition held at Bangladesh. It was a huge forum where talented and gifted artists from different countries took part.

For Ekta it was a proud moment when her painting called ‘Morning Glory’ was selected for award. Good wishes poured in for Ekta from her family and JRU family. To honour her success and talent, the University organised a painting competition at JRU campus. During the competition, several paintings of students from across departments were showcased along with Ekta’s paintings.

Going forward, to honour gifted and talented girls, the University declared an award called ‘The Women Achievers Award’. Ekta was honoured with this Award on Women’s Day this year.

Today, Ekta is the pride of Jharkhand Rai University. She continues to pursue her dream with success.
