Sports is an integral part of campus life at Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi. The University Sports Club recently organised an inter-department volley ball championship. The 2 days event saw 10 teams contesting for the final trophy.
The final nail-biting match was played between Department of Mining Engineering and Department of Computer Science-Information Technology.
Students gathered at the sports ground to cheer their respective teams. The final match started around 4pm in the evening, with both the teams competing to ace the game and win the trophy. It was played in two sets, where during the first round Mining Team scored points of 15 – 5, while the IT team scored 16 – 4.
In the second round the Mining Team scored 15-9 points to win the championship powered by knockout performance that upped their game. The crucial role of referee was performed by National Referee, Volleyball, Ajay Kumar.
Both the teams were applauded and encouraged by the audience. After the match, Registrar, Dr Piyush Ranjan gave away the trophies to the winning team and the runner-up team. He congratulated both the teams for their performance and said that games as a part of the University curriculum is necessary for all-round development of students. The University’s physical trainer Sachin Singh, JRU sports club convener Prof Vinod Mahato, Prof Amarendra together contributed to make this championship a success.
