  4. Report says, the pilot vomited inside the cockpit after landing.
  5. Armaan later collapsed at the airline’s dispatch office.
  6. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he could not be saved and was declared dead.

Phased implementation of new pilot duty and rest regulations

  1. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has proposed a phased implementation of new pilot duty and rest regulations.
  2. The aim is to enhance flight safety by reducing pilot fatigue.
  3. Out of 22 clauses, 15 clauses would be implemented from 01.07.2025
  4. The remaining 7 clauses would be rolled out from 01.11.2025.
  5. A significant change in this phase is the extension of the mandatory weekly rest period for pilots from the current 36 hours to 48 hours.
  6. Because pilots have been demanding the removal of two consecutive nights of flying, introduced in 2019.
  7. Flying consecutively for two nights disrupts sleep, causes fatigue, and affects alertness.
  8. What has led to this situation – apparently, the answer lies in the fact that increased international flights have raised night flying, while airlines have cut layovers to improve cost efficiency, further straining pilots.
